| Chris Vermeeren
Chris Vermeeren was a designer who worked at Mercury Creative. He was an extremely intelligent young man who proved his talent and dedication to his art every day I worked with him. Chris was visiting Mexico in December of last year with his younger brother. While sitting at an outdoor cafe in Mazatlan, he and his brother were caught in the crossfire of a drug-related attack. Chris had pushed his brother out of the way, a courageous move which allowed his brother to escape unscathed. Chris spent several days in hospital, and passed away on January 12, 2000. Chris had many friends in Vancouver, and he will be missed terribly by us all. Chris inspired me greatly in the time I knew him. We both attended the Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design, and I looked up to him as he graduated a year ahead of me. His work ethic, intelligence, sense of humour, and passion have changed me forever. Chris, I thank you, and will miss you very much. - Colby Fulton |
