Mercury Creative had the honour of working with two of the most talented studios in Vancouver when we helped Relic Entertainment and Rubber Oven Design produce the HomeWorld CD-ROM.

"It was a real treat collaborating with the artists and designers at Rubber Oven and Relic; both studios have quite a few graduates of the Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design, where I spent my four years." said Mercury Creative president Colby Fulton. "It's great to know that the other people working on the project have the same high standards of quality."

It's that quality which practically drips from the HomeWorld box. HomeWorld is a 3-D, real-time strategy game that moves with the extreme speed of a StarWars dogfight, but requires strategic thinking like StarCraft. "I'm not a big fan of the flat, above-view strategy games myself," said Colby, obviously speaking of one of his passions, "I need speed and excitement, and the feeling I'm really in the game - and HomeWorld definitely delivers. HomeWorld doesn't limit one to the pilot's seat, however - if you prefer the status of admiral you can control entire fleets of spacecraft and engage huge ships with swarms of attack craft. I've never seen anything like it!"

The CD-ROM was an extreme technical achievement, incorporating over 30 video clips taken straight from the game, an epic, cinematic intro movie which can be seen above, and hundreds of screenshots, sound clips, and conceptual art.
